We’ve been getting more questions about treating double chins and what causes them in the first place. Double chins can be hereditary, but they can also develop over time due to the loss of skin elasticity or as a result of weight fluctuations. No matter the cause, we have solutions!
Products: Don’t forget about your neck and chin
As with all skin care, early prevention is key. When applying your topical skin care products, don’t stop with your face! The anti-aging and reparative ingredients in your skin care products can also improve the appearance of your chin and neck (and your décolletage). We recommend Face Whip, our luxurious yet lightweight moisturizer that gives you hydrated, supple skin. Face Whip also combats environmental damage and rebuilds and restores the protective barrier of the skin.
Extend your retinol treatment to your chin and neck areas every other night before you put on moisturizer. Try our Night Watch retinol drops, which stimulate collagen production and refine the skin’s surface.
Microneedling can tighten loose skin by stimulating collagen production, resulting in improved skin texture, firmness and hydration. If you’ve tried microneedling on your face and loved the results, be sure to include your chin and neck. Starting regular microneedling treatments before you start seeing the effects of aging — sagging skin, the development of creases — and sun damage can make a major difference down the line.
The “Nefertiti Lift”
You can get great results with injectables, especially if you start incorporating them into your treatment regime before symptoms worsen. The same Botox we use on your face can be used to smooth lines and creases on the neck. Known as The Nefertiti Lift, Botox is used to target the platysma muscles along the lower jaw and down your neck, smoothing and tightening the skin.
Kybella targets truly stubborn pockets of fat, permanently dissolving fat cells with a lab-created acid that mimics a naturally occurring substance that aids fat absorption and digestion in the intestine. As the only FDA approved injectable treatment to permanently dissolve submental fat (the area under the chin), Kybella is a non-surgical solution to getting rid of your double chin. Kybella destroys fat cells and sculpts and contours your profile through a series of injections under the chin and along the jawline. Depending on the amount of fat in the treatment area, multiple sessions are usually required (scheduled 8-12 weeks apart), and full results will be visible 4-6 months after the final treatment. While that may seem like a long time, remember that this is a permanent solution — it’s worth the wait!
