Have you thought about your neck recently? If not, you’re not alone. People who diligently follow a skin care routine sometimes forget to adequately protect and treat their necks.
However, this neglected area of the body shows signs of aging just as much as (if not more than) your face. Neck creases worsen over time as the skin loses elasticity, and while you can partially blame your wrinkly neck on genetics, certain habits — suntanning, smoking, repeated motions like constantly looking down at your phone — can make everything worse. Obviously, for your overall health and wellness, we advise you ditch the suntanning and smoking, but unless you plan to stay immobile or wear a turtleneck for the rest of your life, it’s time to pay attention to your neck!
Prevention is key
The number one thing you can do to protect your neck from signs of aging is to stay out of the tanning bed and avoid prolonged sun exposure. Now, isn’t that easy? Even if you’re doing both of those things, be sure to put SPF on your neck (as well as your face, chest, shoulders, arms, hands and any body part that may be exposed to sun during the day) every day.
Each evening, apply an anti-aging moisturizer to your neck, applying the moisturizer in upward motions in the AM and the PM (in the AM, follow this step with SPF). We recommend Face Whip, a luxurious yet lightweight moisturizer that gives you hydrated, supple skin and combats environmental damage. Face Whip is powered by hyaluronic acid to replenish and retain cell moisture and ceramides to rebuild and restore the protective barrier of the skin. Also, be sure to include moisturizer on your décolletage, as this is another often neglected area in need of TLC.
In addition to your SPF and moisturizer, your neck will likely benefit from a retinol treatment. You may already be using retinol on your face, so just be sure to include your neck. Our Night Watch is easy to add to your skin care routine — simply apply Night Watch every other night before you put on your moisturizer. Overnight, the pure retinol, bisabolol and vitamin C will stimulate collagen production and refine the skin’s surface. Retinol can take some getting used to, so slowly introduce retinol by starting with once a week and working your way up to every other night.
You can’t stop aging, but you can age gracefully
If you’ve learned anything about injectables, you probably know that it’s best to address wrinkles and creases before they progress. Studies show that Botox can be used to smooth fine lines on the neck just like it does on your face. Also known as The Nefertiti Lift (yes, that’s a nod to this babe), Botox is injected along your lower jaw and down your neck, targeting the platysma muscles to smooth and tighten skin.
Another option to minimize the signs of aging on your neck and prevent creases from worsening is microneedling with PRP on your face and neck. Take it one step further with PRP injections, which can smooth neck creases and wrinkles. If you incorporate treatments like Botox and microneedling before deep lines form, your neck will thank you later.
