With temperatures sometimes reaching the 80s, the spring in Texas is unlike any other place in the country.
Whether you’re a recent transplant or a born-and-raised Texan, preparing your skin for the unique weather conditions this time of year is a must.
We’ve compiled a list of five springtime self-care ideas to help you take care of your skin and well-being as the weather starts to shift.
Humidity is a normal part of living in the South, but humidity levels change during different parts of the year. Humidity plays a crucial role in your skin’s overall health and wellness, as the skin requires balanced moisture levels to thrive.
Too little humidity can cause your skin to look and feel dry and dull. In seasons like these, it’s important to have a hydrating moisturizer in your routine, like our Recovery Lotion.
In addition to monitoring the humidity level in the air, investing in a humidifier can also be beneficial. Adding extra humidity to the air is great for your skin and can also benefit your physical health.
Even with the addition of an in-home humidifier and the more humid weather, your skin still needs a moisturizer. This goes for all skin types — not just those who have dry skin!
One of the best parts of springtime in Texas is the ability to get out and explore. However, if you plan on spending time outdoors, you’ll also want to practice self-care by wearing sunscreen, like our Sheer Defense SPF. Even though the spring weather may seem more temperate, the sun's ultraviolet radiation can still damage your delicate skin.
Sunscreen helps decrease your risk of developing skin cancer and can help keep your skin looking beautiful and youthful for as long as possible. Over time, the sun can cause free radical damage and exacerbate the speed at which signs of premature aging appear.
If you want to keep fine lines, wrinkles and age spots at bay, it’s crucial to apply sunscreen before leaving the house. Once you’re home, it’s always a good idea to cleanse your skin.
Even if you didn’t get sweaty, that build-up of external toxins and debris can clog your pores, dull your radiance and even damage your moisture barrier. Cleansing your skin, especially with a gentle cleanser like our Gentle Soothing Cleanser, helps to remove all of those factors and leaves your skin open and ready to accept moisturizer and other skin care products.
Speaking of skin care products, it’s likely that you’ll need to change up your springtime skin care routine. Utilize more lightweight moisturizers like High Beam, and be mindful of using active ingredients that may increase your photosensitivity.
Learning how your skin reacts to the change in seasons can help you determine which products to swap into your routine.
Texas springtime can range from fairly chilly (by Texas standards) to nearly summertime highs. It’s great to be able to get outdoors, but make sure that you plan accordingly.
In addition to wearing sunscreen to protect your skin from sunburn and UV radiation, it’s always a good idea to wear a hat and sunglasses, too. Layers are also an excellent plan so that you can be comfortable even in the most extreme temperature swings. Plus, long sleeves and pants protect your skin even further from sun damage.
Need some ideas for ways to practice self-care during the Texas spring? Here are five self-care activities to try out.
As the Texas springtime heat intensifies, pamper yourself with a refreshing facial to rejuvenate your skin. With many options available, from luxurious spa treatments to DIY home facials, there's something for everyone looking to beat the heat and feel revitalized.
Indulge in a clay mask or a hydrating aloe vera treatment to combat the dryness brought on by the sweltering temperature. Whether you choose to visit a Skin Pharm clinic or use our Clay Time mask, a facial in the midst of Texas spring can be a delightful escape.
Treat yourself to some self-care in the warmth of the season, and emerge with a glowing complexion.
Everyone’s skin needs moisture, no matter your skin type, and your job is to provide it with the right kind to help it thrive. When the heat gets the better of your skin, stop by one of our Texas Skin Pharm locations for a skin consultation — we can help you find the best routine to support your skin the way it needs it most.
Carving out time for yourself is crucial for promoting mental health, so why not improve your physical health while you’re doing it? Yoga classes are a great way to care for your mind and body, and Texas has a variety of options to choose from. You can even try out different styles every time until you find one that you can’t live without.
Take advantage of the beautiful springtime weather by heading outside to a local park with a book. Being outdoors is incredibly cathartic, especially after being cooped up inside all winter.
Remember to protect yourself from UV radiation by using sunscreen and wearing a hat and sunglasses while you’re out.
While shopping in the grocery store might be more convenient, buying food right from the source is the best way to get the most out of the vitamins and minerals fresh produce contains. Wandering around your local farmer’s market is a great way to meet new people, support local vendors and ensure you get the freshest food possible.
Engaging in self-care, especially during the springtime, offers a wealth of opportunities to enjoy yourself, get outside and relax. However, even though the temperatures may still feel mild, it’s crucial to make the necessary adjustments to continue caring for your skin all year round.
Caring for your skin should be part of your self-care routine, too, and we’d love to see you soon at one of our Skin Pharm Texas locations — Dallas, Houston, Austin and Southlake. Our skin care providers are ready to help you reach your goals.
