When we add a new treatment to our menu, we start by asking questions.
Is there research to support it? Will it meaningfully improve patient outcomes? How will it work alongside our existing services?
When that new treatment earns its place, your questions matter just as much. Our clinical trainer, Julia Franklyn, PA-C, answers your FAQs about PDGF (platelet-derived growth factor).
Ariessence pure PDGF+ is made from sh-polypeptide-59 dimer (the lab-created form of human PDGF-BB), water, a pH buffer and hyaluronic acid.
PDGF is clinically-derived and delivers a precise, standardized concentration of growth factors.
PRP (platelet-rich plasma) comes from your own blood. It contains a variety of growth factors, including PDGF. PRP quality can vary based on platelet count, medical conditions, medications and certain lifestyle factors.
Both PDGF and PRP are regenerative and help with collagen production and tissue repair.
For anti-aging, we recommend 3-4 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart for best results.
PDGF is not a filler. It’s a topical enhancement used in combination with microneedling or Moxi laser.
PDGF wouldn’t benefit someone struggling with active acne breakouts. It would benefit someone with acne scarring because it stimulates collagen production and remodeling.
PDGF isn’t pregnancy-safe, but microneedling is. You can add PRP to microneedling while pregnant or breastfeeding.
Yes! You can absolutely switch to PDGF for your next microneedling session if you're in the middle of a PRP series.
Adding PDGF to either treatment will support collagen stimulation, recovery and enhance your results. Deciding between the two depends on your skin concerns and your provider’s recommendation.
If you want to target things like acne scarring and early signs of aging, microneedling is a great option. Microneedling initiates healing and collagen production to reduce the look of fine lines, firm skin and even texture.
Moxi laser is ideal if you want to target discoloration, sun damage and overall tone. It gently resurfaces skin to break up pigment, prevent further damage and improve radiance.
The best way to find out which one’s right for you is to see one of our board-certified providers! Book a consultation to get started.
