Here’s our plan

Your Appointment
  • Schedule your appointment at least two weeks before a special event. Redness, swelling and bruising may be apparent in that time period.
  • Avoid any dental cleanings two weeks before and any dental procedures four weeks before filler treatment.
  • To minimize bruising or bleeding, we recommend discontinuing the use of aspirin, NSAIDS, gingko biloba, garlic, ginseng, St. John’s Wort, flax oil, cod liver oil, vitamin A, vitamin E or any other essential fatty acids at least three days to one week before and after treatment. Talk to your primary physician before discontinuing any medications.
  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, niacin supplements and cigarettes 24-48 hours before and after your treatment. These may increase your risk of bruising and swelling.
  • Starting arnica or bromelain supplements at least two days before injections may help with bruising.
  • Let your provider know if you have a history of cold sores. An antiviral may be prescribed.
  • You may not have an active infection or rash in the area being treated.
  • You may not be pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • We’ll apply a topical numbing cream to ensure you’re comfortable for your treatment.
  • Temporary injection site redness and swelling is common and usually goes away within hours. Swelling most commonly lasts up to a few days and can be improved with tips we provide at your appointment.
  • Results are immediate and last anywhere from 6-12 months or longer!
  • We promise, you’ll still look like yourself, just the best version.
  • Redness or sensitivity might be present and can last up to a few hours.
  • Bruising might be present, last up to several days and can appear as blueish/purplish discoloration. If you notice any paleness in the area, contact your provider immediately.
  • Use Tylenol for any soreness.
  • Avoid significant movement or massaging in the treated area unless instructed by your provider.
  • Wait at least two weeks before having any other facial treatments (i.e. facials, massages, lasers, ultrasounds or microdermabrasion).
  • Avoid makeup for 24 hours.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
  • Avoid extensive sun or heat for 72 hours.
  • If instructed by your provider, apply a cool compress for 15 minutes each hour to help with swelling.
  • If needed, you may take an antihistamine to help with swelling.
  • Sleep face-up and slightly elevated to help with swelling.
  • Postpone any dental procedures for at least two weeks after treatment.

FAQs

  • What’s the downtime like?

It’s common to experience redness, swelling, bruising and soreness immediately after treatment, so keep that in mind if you’re planning to return to work afterward. We recommend scheduling injections around your work schedule if you’re concerned about social downtime.

  • What areas can be treated with filler?

    • Temples
    • Under-eyes
    • Midface
    • Smile lines
    • Lips
    • Nasolabial folds
    • Chin
    • Jawline
    • Neck lines
    • Scars
  • When will I see results?

You will see results immediately after treatment.

  • How long do results last?

This depends on the product used, area injected and the patient. Most filler injections last for 6–12 months.

  • Does it hurt?

Topical anesthetics may be used to reduce pain during treatment. Additionally, all Juvederm and Restylane fillers include lidocaine, which has been shown to reduce pain.

  • What is the best lip filler?

The right one for you will depend on your natural lip structure, shape and what you’d like your lips to look like after fillers.

  • What if I don’t get filler every 6-12 months?

If you choose to not continue filler injections, your skin will eventually go back to the state at which it was before you started treatments.

  • Are there any other side effects I should know about?

The most common early reactions/side effects of injectable soft tissue fillers include bruising, edema and erythema. The application of ice after injection may help to reduce swelling, and preoperative precautions regarding anticoagulating agents may help to reduce the severity of bruising.

  • Will my face look undone or unnatural?

When injected in the correct amounts by the right medical provider, filler injections can result in a subtle appearance that only you will notice. But beware, everyone might comment on your improved appearance, they just might not be able to pinpoint the cause.

  • I’m pregnant or breastfeeding. Can I be treated with filler injections?

No. Fillers should not be done while pregnant or breastfeeding.
