Here’s our plan

Your Appointment

PRP injections —

  • Schedule your appointment at least two weeks before a special event. Swelling and bruising may be apparent in that time period.
  • To minimize bruising or bleeding, we recommend discontinuing the use of aspirin, NSAIDS, gingko biloba, garlic, ginseng, St. John's Wort, flax oil, cod liver oil, vitamin A, vitamin E or any other essential fatty acids at least three days to one week before and after treatment. Talk to your primary physician before discontinuing any medications.
  • Starting arnica supplements at least two days before injections may help with bruising.
  • You may not have an active rash or infection in the area being treated.
  • If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, we require clearance from your OB-GYN.

PRP for hair restoration —

  • Schedule your appointment at least two weeks before a special event. Redness, swelling and bruising may be apparent in that time period.
  • Let your provider know if you have a history of cold sores. An antiviral may be prescribed.
  • You may not have an active rash in the area being treated.
  • If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, we require clearance from your OB-GYN.
  1. We’ll apply topical numbing cream to ensure you’re comfortable during your treatment.
  2. We’ll draw a small amount of blood (don’t worry — we’re quick!) so we can spin it down and isolate your platelet-rich plasma, aka “liquid gold.”
  3. Next, we’ll microneedle, stamp or inject your PRP just beneath the skin to boost collagen, elastin and even encourage hair growth.
  4. We’ll massage any remaining PRP onto your skin so you can reap all the restorative benefits of your body’s healing abilities.

PRP injections —

  • Swelling, bruising or sensitivity might be present and can last up to a few days.
  • Use Tylenol only as needed for any soreness.
  • Due to open skin, keep the area clean and avoid strenuous exercise or sweating for 24 hours.

PRP for hair restoration —

  • Redness, bruising or sensitivity might be present and can last up to a few days.
  • Use Tylenol only as needed for any soreness.
  • Don’t pick or scratch at treated skin.
  • Due to open skin, avoid strenuous exercise or sweating for 24 hours.

FAQs

  • What areas can be treated with PRP?

    • Under-eyes
    • Smile/laugh lines
    • Deep wrinkles
    • Acne scarring
    • Hair loss
  • What’s the difference between needling treatments with PRP and PRP injections?

When added on to microneedling or a Gold Infusion, PRP further improves overall texture and tone. We’ll apply your PRP topically and needle it into the skin for even better collagen-boosting benefits. PRP injections are ideal for more targeted treatments, like brightening the under-eyes and hair restoration. Many patients choose to stack both!

  • What’s the downtime like?

It’s common to experience redness, swelling and soreness immediately after treatment, so keep that in mind if you’re planning to return to work afterward. We recommend scheduling injections around your work schedule if you’re concerned about social downtime.

  • When will I see results?

Results are often noticeable within one week for needling treatments and within four weeks for injections. We typically recommend a series of 4-6 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart for best results.

  • How long do results last?

Results are considered permanent. We recommend healthy lifestyle habits and a Skin Pharm skin care routine to maintain your results!

  • Does it hurt?

We’ll apply topical numbing cream to minimize discomfort, although you may feel a little pinch with injections. We can also use a vibrating beauty bar to disrupt pain signals and ice packs to ease soreness.

  • Are there any other side effects I should know about?

Redness and sensitivity are common after needling treatments with PRP and should subside within 24 hours. Common injection side effects include bleeding, bruising, swelling and redness, but these typically improve within 1-3 days.

  • What about aftercare?

Wait 24 hours before strenuous exercise, sweating or wearing makeup.

  • I’m pregnant or breastfeeding. Can I get PRP?

If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, we require clearance from your OB-GYN.
