Your Appointment

Schedule your appointment at least two weeks before a special event. This gives potential redness, swelling and bruising time to subside and allows your injections to fully set in.
To minimize bruising or bleeding, we recommend discontinuing the use of aspirin, NSAIDS, gingko biloba, garlic, ginseng, St. John’s Wort, flax oil, cod liver oil, vitamin A, vitamin E or any other essential fatty acids at least three days to one week before and after treatment. Talk to your primary physician before discontinuing any medications.
Starting arnica supplements at least two days before injections may help with bruising.
You may not have an active rash in the area being treated.
You may not be pregnant or breastfeeding.

The treatment involves injecting low doses of Botox or Dysport right below the skin with very small needles. (The needles are the size of just 3 pieces of hair!)
Temporary injection site redness and swelling is common and usually goes away within the hour. Feel free to gently apply one of Skin Pharm’s tinted SPFs to camouflage.
Results start to kick in within 3–5 days and fully onset around 2 weeks.
You’ll still look like yourself, just the best version!

Redness or sensitivity might be present and can last up to a few hours.
Use Tylenol as needed for possible headaches.
Don’t manipulate the treated area, wear a hat or lie down for four hours after treatment.
Don’tperform activities that involve straining, heavy lifting or vigorous exercise for 24 hours after treatment.
Wait at least two weeks before having any other facial treatments (i.e. facials, massages, lasers, ultrasounds or microdermabrasion).
Results are visible within 3-14 days. If you haven’t seen your desired results after 14 days, you may need additional injections. You’ll be charged for product used during touch-ups and subsequent appointments.

What’s the downtime like?

Botox/Dysport requires minimal downtime, so you can return to your daily routine immediately after you leave our office.
When will I see results?

In general, the effects of Botox and Dysport begin to appear in one to three days, peak in one to four weeks, and gradually decline after three to four months.
How long do results last?

Typically, you can expect results to last 3–4 months.

What if I don’t get Botox/Dysport every three months?

If you choose to not continue Botox or Dysport injections, without treatment, your muscles will continue to contract and potentially result in lines as before you started treatment.
How does Botox/Dysport actually work?

Botox is a neuromuscular blocking agent, which means it causes paralysis of the injected muscle by preventing the release of acetylcholine from motor nerve terminals. The muscle strengthens again as the nerves regenerate.
Do Botox/Dysport injections hurt?

The needle is extremely small, so it feels like nothing more than a pin prick. Other than the injection itself, the procedure is painless.
Are there any other side effects I should know about?

Side effects are usually mild and transient and most commonly include swelling or bruising at the injection site, mild headache, or flu-like symptoms. Undesired impairment of muscle function may also occur, but is usually associated with poor injection technique or inappropriate patient selection. Because smaller doses are less likely to cause unintended adverse effects, a conservative approach to treatment is advisable.
Will my face look undone or unnatural?

When injected in the correct amounts by the right medical provider, Botox and Dysport injections can result in a subtle appearance that only you will notice. But beware, everyone might comment on your improved appearance, they just might not be able to pinpoint the cause.
When should I start getting Botox/Dysport?

We say that as soon as you start seeing the wrinkles at rest — when you’re not animating — it’s time to consider Botox.
What’s the difference between Botox and Dysport?

Botox and Dysport are both purified proteins that effectively block muscle contraction, although each has slight differences in their molecular makeup. Botox and Dysport accomplish the same goal, so it’s really just a matter of what you prefer. Your Skin Pharm provider can help determine the best option for you.
I’m pregnant or breastfeeding. Can I be treated with Botox and Dysport?

No. Botox and Dysport should not be done while pregnant or breastfeeding.
