Here’s our plan

Your Appointment
  • Schedule your appointment at least two weeks before a special event. Swelling and bruising may be apparent in that time period.
  • To minimize bruising or bleeding, we recommend discontinuing the use of aspirin, NSAIDs, gingko biloba, garlic, ginseng, St. John's Wort, flax oil, cod liver oil, vitamin A, vitamin E or any other essential fatty acids at least three days to one week before and after treatment. Talk to your primary physician before discontinuing any medications.
  • Starting arnica supplements at least two days before injections may help with bruising.
  • You may not have an active rash or infection in the area being treated.
  • If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, we require clearance from your OB-GYN.
  • We’ll use a topical numbing cream or local anesthetic to ensure you’re comfortable during your treatment.
  • We’ll draw a small amount of blood — don’t worry, we’re quick at this — so we can extract your PRP.
  • Through a controlled heating and cooling process, we’ll transform your PRP into a gel-like consistency and inject it into areas of concern.
  • You’ll notice immediate volume and rejuvenated, more radiant skin within 4-6 weeks.
  • Swelling, bruising or sensitivity might be present and can last up to a few days.
  • Use Tylenol only as needed for any soreness.
  • Due to open skin, keep the area clean and avoid saunas, strenuous exercise, sweating, swimming or wearing makeup for 24 hours.
  • If treating the under-eyes, massage the treated area two times a day for five days.
  • To minimize bruising, swelling or delayed healing, avoid alcohol, caffeine, niacin supplements, high-sodium foods and cigarettes 24-48 hours after your treatment.
  • Avoid treatments such as lasers, ultrasounds, peels, facials or microdermabrasion for two weeks after treatment.
  • Notify your provider immediately if you experience increased pain or swelling, redness, blisters or itching following treatment.

FAQs

  • What’s the difference between PRP and PRP gel?

While both harness your body’s natural regenerative abilities, PRP gel has a thicker consistency and enhances volume for even more rejuvenated, radiant results. Like PRP, PRP gel improves collagen production, texture and tone — but you’ll get the added benefits of increased skin integrity, volume and structure, too.

  • What’s the difference between filler and PRP gel?

Filler uses a hyaluronic acid gel to create volume. PRP gel uses your body’s growth factors to not only create volume, but also to promote long-term collagen production, enhance skin quality, improve the look of fine lines and leave skin radiant.

  • What areas can be treated with PRP gel?

    • Under-eyes
    • Temples
    • Cheeks
    • Lips
    • Chin
    • Jawline
    • Neck
  • What’s the downtime like?

Redness, swelling, bruising and soreness are common immediately after injections, so keep this in mind if you’re concerned about social downtime. PRP promotes healing, though, which means any side effects should subside relatively quickly.

  • When will I see results?

You’ll see volume immediately after treatment, some of which is due to swelling. True results are visible within 4-6 weeks as collagen continues to build.

For best results, we recommend two treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart with 1-2 maintenance treatments per year.

  • How long do results last?

Since PRP is regenerative, collagen-boosting benefits are considered permanent. Volumizing benefits last up to six months. We recommend diligent lifestyle measures, a Skin Pharm skin care routine and maintenance treatments for best results.

  • Does it hurt?

We’ll apply a topical numbing cream and inject a local anesthetic to ensure you’re comfortable during treatment. You may feel a slight pinch, but patients tolerate treatment well.

  • Are there any other side effects I should know about?

Initial redness, bruising and swelling are common, but otherwise, PRP gel is virtually risk-free.

  • I’m pregnant or breastfeeding. Can I get PRP gel?

If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, we require clearance from your OB-GYN.

The Skin Pharm difference

“The Skin Pharm mission goes beyond improving your complexion — the goal is to find balance and harmony in your inner and outer beauty.

It’s this improvement in our total health that betters our interpersonal relationships — and more importantly, our relationship with ourselves.”
