Your Microneedling Treatment Plan
- Schedule your microneedling appointment at least one week before an event. Redness, swelling and peeling may be apparent in that time period.
- Let your provider know if you have a history of cold sores. An antiviral may be prescribed.
- You may not have an active rash or infection in the area being treated.
- You’ll need to avoid Accutane for six months prior to treatment.
- You’ll need to avoid waxing for one week before microneedling treatment.
- To reduce sensitivity, discontinue topical retinoids 24 hours before treatment.
- If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, we require clearance from your OB-GYN.
- To minimize bruising or bleeding, we recommend discontinuing the use of aspirin, NSAIDS and fish oil three days before and after treatment. Talk to your primary physician before discontinuing any medications.
- We’ll apply a topical numbing cream to ensure you’re comfortable for your microneedling treatment.
- (This part sounds worse than it feels, we promise!) Fine needles puncture the skin, creating channels to stimulate new skin cells.
- We provide a Skin Pharm post-procedure kit for you to use 1-3 days after your microneedling treatment while healing.

- Redness or sensitivity might be present post-microneedling and can last up to 24 hours.
- Peeling and/or dryness may start 3-5 days after treatment.
- Don’t pick or scratch at treated skin.
- Avoid strenuous exercise or sweating for 24 hours.
- Wait 24 hours before wearing makeup.
- Avoid sun tanning and extensive sun exposure while skin heals from microneedling.
- If exposed to the sun, use broad spectrum SPF 30+ and reapply every two hours.
- For melasma, acne, scars and hyperpigmentation, 4-6 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart are recommended for best results.
- For age management, 4-6 treatments spaced 12 weeks apart are recommended for best results.
- We’ll send you home with a post-procedure kit (our Jetsetter Kit) to use while skin heals.
- Cleanse AM and PM with Foaming Cleanser.
- Moisturize throughout the day with Recovery Lotion.
- Restart your regular routine after 3-5 days or once skin no longer feels dry, tight and has completely healed. Wait 5-7 days before restarting exfoliants (like retinol, glycolic acid, lactic acid and salicylic acid).
- Post-procedure kit is ideal for dry, sensitive skin and should only be used while skin heals. Prolonged use for oily, acne-prone skin can cause breakouts.

How often can you get microneedling?
For melasma and scarring, every 4-6 weeks for a series of 4-6 treatments. For age management, every 12 weeks. Allow full healing (typically 1-2 weeks) between sessions. Maintenance treatments once or twice per year are recommended.
Is Moxi better than microneedling?
They target different concerns and complement each other. Moxi is a laser targeting pigment, tone, and sun damage. Microneedling stimulates collagen for texture, scarring, and skin laxity. Skin Pharm providers can recommend the right treatment or combination.

What’s the downtime like?
It’s common to experience redness, swelling and soreness immediately after treatment, so keep that in mind if you’re planning to return to work afterward. We recommend scheduling around your work schedule if you’re concerned about social downtime.
