1. Check out the farmer’s market

Your emotional wellbeing is just as important as your physical health — and the farmer’s market is an excellent place to find ways to support both. There are many farmer’s markets you can choose from, like the West Ashley Farmers Market on Wednesdays, the North Charleston Farmers Market on Thursdays and the Charleston Farmers Market on Saturdays. 

Grab an acai bowl, browse locally-made goods or buy all the ingredients to make your own farm-to-table feast. It’s also a great way to get to know the people of Charleston — and most farmer's markets are dog-friendly, too!

2. Take a walking tour

Taking a walking tour of Charleston is another way to experience the city. There are plenty of options for walking tours, depending on what you’re interested in — you can explore the Charleston area and learn more about the local architecture, history and culture. 

3. Treat yourself to some self-care

6. Don’t forget the beach

You’d be remiss if you spent time in the city without visiting at least one of Charleston’s beautiful beaches. If you’re looking for wellness tips in Charleston, look no further than a little fun in the sand and sun. For starters, check out Folly Beach, Isle of Palms, Kiawah Island and Sullivan’s Island.

While you’re in the area, you can also head out to James Island. This charming island has a rich history, plenty of walking and biking trails, kayaking spots (with rental availability) and the Splash Zone Waterpark. 

It makes for an excellent day or weekend trip, even if you reside in Charleston all year round. Just make sure to wear your sunscreen — sun exposure is one of the leading factors of premature signs of aging (especially hyperpigmentation and fine lines and wrinkles).

7. Take a surf lesson

Surfing doesn’t just happen on the west coast. If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to surf, Charleston has the perfect opportunity to do just that. 

The city offers multiple surf schools that offer even beginners the ability to hop on a surfboard and learn — you can even bring the kids along to join in the fun! Surfing is also an incredible, full-body workout that burns between 200 and 300 calories an hour. You may be surprised by just how sore you are the day after!
