PRP Injections vs. PRP Gel: What’s the Difference?

PRP Injections vs. PRP Gel: What’s the Difference?

There’s more than one way to experience the benefits of PRP.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections and PRP gel both harness your body’s regenerative growth factors, but there are some important distinctions between how they’re used and what they treat. Let’s break down the differences between PRP injections and PRP gel!

A refresher on PRP

We love PRP in any form, so before we discuss each treatment, let’s talk about the main ingredient. PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is a component of your own blood filled with growth factors, platelets and proteins (hello, collagen) that promotes tissue repair and regeneration.

To extract this collagen-boosting ingredient, we’ll draw your blood and spin it down in a centrifuge. Next, we’ll inject or needle it into your skin to improve fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, scarring, texture and visible signs of aging.

What are PRP injections?

PRP injections are used to improve texture, even tone and promote hair restoration.

Key benefits:

  • A natural, well-tolerated injectable
  • Accelerates healing
  • Boosts collagen production
  • Improves discoloration, like dark circles and uneven tone
  • Leads to firmer, smoother, healthier skin

Best for:

  • Under-eyes
  • Smile/laugh lines
  • Deep wrinkles
  • Acne scarring
  • Hair loss

You can easily add PRP injections to a needling treatment, too, especially if you’re already adding PRP. When paired together, microneedling or a Gold Infusion with PRP encourage the skin to repair and renew itself further — resulting in a smooth, even-toned, more youthful complexion.

PRP injections: $600 | Hair restoration with PRP: $900 | Needling treatments + PRP injections: $900+

What is PRP gel?

PRP gel offers the same benefits as PRP — with the added benefit of volume! Through a controlled heating and cooling process, we’ll turn your PRP into a thicker, gel-like substance and inject it into areas of concern.

Key benefits:

  • Naturally restores lost volume
  • Thicker consistency results in more targeted, longer-term collagen production
  • Improves skin quality and integrity
  • Reduces fine lines, scarring and discoloration
  • Increases elasticity

Best for:

  • Under-eyes
  • Temples
  • Cheeks
  • Lips
  • Chin
  • Jawline
  • Neck
  • Backs of hands

PRP gel: $950 per treatment | $1,700 for two treatments; $850 per treatment (recommended for best results)

Which one should I get — PRP injections or PRP gel?

It all depends on your goals and your provider’s recommendation! In general, though, the primary difference between PRP injections and PRP gel is volume.

If you want to address uneven texture or pigment but aren’t concerned about volume loss, PRP injections are for you.

If you want a natural way to restore lost volume and improve overall skin quality, PRP gel is for you.
