Complexion Class 08: Double Cleansing

Complexion Class 08: Double Cleansing

When we say rinse and repeat, we mean it. Literally.

Double cleansing may be having a moment, but we’ve been all-in on this trend for a while. Why? Your other skin care products can’t work as effectively if your skin’s not clean. A second cleanse removes anything that stands between you and all those benefits — and a glowing, healthy complexion, too.

In today’s episode of Complexion Class, our product development manager, Maddie Cross, explains what double cleansing is, how it benefits your skin and the product duo she trusts for a refreshing, deep clean.

What is double cleansing?

Double cleansing is exactly what it sounds like! It’s washing your face twice, but with two different cleansers. The goal is to remove anything sitting on the skin so you can cleanse more thoroughly.

First cleanse

You’ll want to start with something calming and hydrating, like Gentle Rinse. This will get rid of any makeup, SPF, oil or dirt from the day, but it won’t leave your skin feeling dry or stripped. Gentle Rinse is ideal here — you’ll follow up with a second cleanse, so you don’t need to overdo it on the first!

Second cleanse

Next, you’ll move onto your second cleanse. You’ll want to use something that has more active ingredients, like our Power Wash, which has salicylic acid and papaya extract to really give your pores and skin a deep clean.

What are the benefits of double cleansing?

We often get asked, “Why should you double cleanse?” Well, double cleansing is going to lead to cleaner skin, which will help any product you apply afterward absorb better. Those products can work more effectively if they don’t have to fight against SPF, dirt or grime from the day. Double cleansing can lead to a glowier complexion and even fewer breakouts, too.

Who should double cleanse?

Double cleansing is best for those with oily skin or people who wear makeup, SPF or waterproof products during the day. Those with dry and sensitive skin should be a little more cautious when double cleansing and only really do it when necessary.

Gentle Rinse and Power Wash are the perfect duo for double cleansing. Shop them here!
