Complexion Class 04: A Pep Talk on Peptides

Complexion Class 04: A Pep Talk on Peptides

If your skin needs a collagen boost, your routine needs peptides!

Collagen is a buzzword in the skin care industry, and for good reason — it keeps your skin looking healthy and youthful! But as we age, the body’s natural collagen production slows down. Incorporating peptides into your skin care routine is a simple way to boost collagen and keep visible signs of aging at bay.

In today’s episode of Complexion Class, our Dallas provider and nurse practitioner Hannah Vance explains how peptides work and shares the peptide-packed product that — and we quote — her friend wants to “bathe her whole body in.” (Honestly, same).

What is collagen?

Collagen is a naturally-occurring protein that gives the skin structure, elasticity and firmness. Its molecules have the ability to retain water, too, which contributes to a hydrated and plump complexion. As we get older, collagen breaks down faster, and our bodies produce it at a slower rate. This decline results in visible signs of aging like fine lines, wrinkles and sagging skin.

How do peptides support collagen production?

Collagen molecules are too big for the skin to absorb on its own — but this is where peptides come in! Peptides are part of the protein needed to build collagen within the skin and are more easily absorbed. They’re able to penetrate deeper and serve as a fertilizer for collagen production!

Give me all the peptides! Which product should I use?

Making peptides part of your skin care routine means you get collagen support on a deeper level and experience other benefits as a result. I love our Youth Serum for this. It’s a blend of hyaluronic acid and peptides that plumps and firms the skin, hydrates, improves fine lines and wrinkles and soothes redness. It rubs in well and layers nicely with other skin care products, too!
