Everyone deserves to feel confident in their skin — that means the guys, too!
Male or female, everyone faces similar skin care issues. While those concerns may stem from different factors, there's a lot of overlap when it comes to the products and treatments we use to address them.
If you're ready to build your skin care routine, curious about treatments or want to treat the special guy in your life to the Skin Pharm experience, we got you! Here are four treatments we love for our male patients.
Do men and women need different skin care?
There are some differences between skin care for men and women. Men’s facial skin tends to be thicker and oilier than women’s, and some studies show men usually have more collagen. Due to the larger presence of testosterone in men, men’s skin also tends to have larger pores that produce more sebum.
Despite these slight differences, men generally have the same skin concerns as women — anti-aging, pigmentation, scarring and breakouts, to name just a few.
Okay, what treatments should I invest in?
PRP hair injections
Men may experience hair loss more so than women, but platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has incredible anti-aging and restorative properties. Injecting it to the scalp can boost collagen and promote new growth.
This multitasking treatment reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars and hyperpigmentation. Tiny micro-wounds encourage collagen production for brighter, healthier skin.
Chemical peels deeply exfoliate to target visible signs of sun damage, skin texture and tone, enlarged pores and more. It’s like a hard reset for the skin, revealing a brighter, more even complexion.
Whether it’s due to aging or a lack of sleep (we see you, dads!), many of our male patients come in to address under-eye hollowing. Filler is a great option to smooth and add volume to that area!
What about a skin care routine?
Men and women can have different triggers for breakouts, whether it’s hormonal or environmental, and women often need cleansing products that thoroughly remove makeup at the end of the day. Men also tend to shave their faces more frequently, and some of our male patients tell us they see similar effects from shaving as dermaplaning.
The reality is, everyone ages. And no matter what your skin concerns are, there are some simple steps you can take to make that journey as enjoyable as it should be. If there’s something about your skin that’s bothering you, we’re here to help you find a solution.
