Your Filler Treatment Plan

Your Appointment
  • Schedule your filler appointment at least two weeks before a special event. Redness, swelling and bruising may be apparent in that time period.
  • Avoid any dental cleanings two weeks before and any dental procedures four weeks before filler treatment.
  • To minimize bruising or bleeding, we recommend discontinuing the use of aspirin, NSAIDS, gingko biloba, garlic, ginseng, St. John’s Wort, flax oil, cod liver oil, vitamin A, vitamin E or any other essential fatty acids at least three days to one week before and after treatment. Talk to your primary physician before discontinuing any medications.
  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, niacin supplements and cigarettes 24-48 hours before and after your filler treatment. These may increase your risk of bruising and swelling.
  • Starting arnica or bromelain supplements at least two days before injections may help with bruising.
  • Let your provider know if you have a history of cold sores. An antiviral may be prescribed.
  • You may not have an active infection or rash in the area being treated.
  • You may not be pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • We’ll apply a topical numbing cream to ensure you’re comfortable for your treatment.
  • Temporary injection site redness and swelling is common and usually goes away within hours. Swelling most commonly lasts up to a few days and can be improved with tips we provide at your appointment.
  • Results from filler are immediate and last anywhere from 6-12 months or longer!
  • We promise, you’ll still look like yourself, just the best version.
  • Redness or sensitivity might be present after filler treatment and can last up to a few hours.
  • Bruising might be present, last up to several days and can appear as blueish/purplish discoloration. If you notice any paleness in the area, contact your provider immediately.
  • Use Tylenol for any soreness.
  • Avoid significant movement or massaging in the treated area unless instructed by your provider.
  • Wait at least two weeks before having any other facial treatments (i.e. facials, massages, lasers, ultrasounds or microdermabrasion).
  • Avoid makeup for 24 hours.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
  • Avoid extensive sun or heat for 72 hours.
  • If instructed by your provider, apply a cool compress for 15 minutes each hour to help with swelling.
  • If needed, you may take an antihistamine to help with swelling.
  • Sleep face-up and slightly elevated to help with swelling.
  • Postpone any dental procedures for at least two weeks after getting any filler treatment.

FAQs

  • Can filler be dissolved?

    Icons

Yes. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved using hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down HA. This is available at Skin Pharm if needed. Results from dissolving are visible within 24-48 hours. Note: permanent or non-HA fillers cannot be dissolved.

  • What is filler made of?

    Icons

Most fillers use hyaluronic acid (HA), naturally occurring in the body. HA attracts water to restore volume and is biodegradable. Skin Pharm uses FDA-approved Juvederm and Restylane fillers, both of which contain lidocaine to minimize discomfort.

  • What are dermal fillers?

    Icons

Dermal fillers are injectable treatments that restore volume, smooth lines, and contour facial features. Most use hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance in the body. Results are immediate and temporary. Skin Pharm uses Juvederm and Restylane product lines.

  • How much does filler cost at Skin Pharm?

    Icons

Pricing varies by clinic and product used. Filler is typically priced per syringe. Find the Skin Pharm clinic closest to you!

  • What’s the downtime like?

    Icons

It’s common to experience redness, swelling, bruising and soreness immediately after treatment, so keep that in mind if you’re planning to return to work afterward. We recommend scheduling injections around your work schedule if you’re concerned about social downtime.

  • What areas can be treated with filler?

    Icons
    • Temples
    • Under-eyes
    • Midface
    • Smile lines
    • Lips
    • Nasolabial folds
    • Chin
    • Jawline
    • Neck lines
    • Scars
  • When will I see results?

    Icons

You’ll see results immediately after treatment. Most filler results last between 6-12 months.

  • How long do results last?

    Icons

This depends on the product used, area injected and the patient. Most filler injections last for 6–12 months.

  • Does it hurt?

    Icons

We’ll use topical anesthetics to minimize discomfort during your treatment. All Juvederm and Restylane fillers contain lidocaine, which has been proven to reduce pain, too.

  • What is the best lip filler?

    Icons

The right one for you will depend on your natural lip structure, shape and what you’d like your lips to look like after fillers.

  • What if I don’t get filler every 6-12 months?

    Icons

If you choose to not continue filler injections, your skin will eventually go back to the state at which it was before you started treatments.

  • Are there any other side effects I should know about?

    Icons

FDA-approved hyaluronic acid fillers used at Skin Pharm are safe for most patients, and our board-certified providers help minimize risk through proper technique and product selection. That said, the most common side effects include bruising, swelling and redness. We'll give you ice packs immediately following your injections to help minimize swelling!

  • Will my face look undone or unnatural?

    Icons

When injected in the correct amounts by the right medical provider, filler injections can result in a subtle appearance that only you will notice. But beware, everyone might comment on your improved appearance, they just might not be able to pinpoint the cause.

  • I’m pregnant or breastfeeding. Can I be treated with filler injections?

    Icons

No. Filler injections should not be performed on those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
