Want to prevent visible signs of aging from appearing rather than treating them later on?
This is one of the many reasons Moxi has become such a popular treatment — and a perfect example of how the world of aesthetics continues to improve. What is Moxi? How exactly does it benefit your skin?
Here are all the basics you need to know to decide if this unique treatment is a good fit for you and your skin.
Moxi is a cosmetic treatment that uses a gentle yet powerful fractionated laser to target and resurface the skin. Moxi focuses on prejuvenation, a term coined to refer to methods for keeping visible signs of aging at bay (as opposed to rejuvenation, which focuses on ways to reverse them).
Moxi treatments work by using the laser to create micro-coagulation zones in the uppermost layer of the skin. The body responds to these areas as it would with any other wound, triggering the natural wound-healing process.
Once repaired, these small areas of controlled injury to the skin are replaced with healthy, vibrant new skin (usually between three and five days after treatment).
For the best results with the least risk for post-treatment side effects, discontinue any medications or topical products that may cause photosensitivity two weeks before your treatment (with your doctor’s approval). If you’re unsure, consult with one of our skin care providers.
Although everyone’s experience may vary slightly depending on their areas of concern and unique skin care goals, the average time for a Moxi laser treatment is about 15 minutes. We’ll apply numbing cream before getting started to keep you comfortable, which adds roughly 30 minutes.
Curious about what Moxi feels like? You’ll experience a slight warming sensation as the Moxi laser glides across the surface of your skin. For most, the process is only slightly uncomfortable — but we have techniques and tools in place to prioritize your comfort!
Compared to many other treatments, Moxi laser treatment requires minimal downtime. Most people experience redness and facial warmth the day after their appointment, followed by the appearance of small dark spots (known as “mends”) in the areas that were treated.
Post-Moxi treatment care includes supporting your skin as it heals. We recommend avoiding the sun as much as possible (especially in the first 24 to 48 hours) and wearing our gentle, non-comedogenic tinted sunscreen, Sheer Defense SPF, when you spend time in the sun. It’s also crucial to wait at least 24 hours before wearing makeup — but Sheer Defense offers just the right amount of tinted coverage!
We’ll send you home with our post-procedure kit, which will serve as your skin care routine (plus SPF!) for the next week or so. Use our gentle foaming cleanser, followed by our supportive Recovery Lotion. Hydration is an essential step of any skin care routine!
Most people are able to go back to their regular skin care routine seven to 10 days after treatment. However, we recommend waiting at least 10 days before restarting any retinol or acid-based skin care products (like AHAs and BHAs), as your skin is still actively healing.
The documented benefits of cosmetic laser treatments have been known for years, especially regarding resurfacing and rejuvenation. However, as Moxi is a prejuvenation-focused treatment option, it has a slightly different target audience.
Moxi is most helpful at targeting areas of the skin showing the beginning signs of sun damage, melasma and other age-related concerns. Moxi also supports the luminosity of the skin, leaving it looking glowing and youthful.
One of the advantages of Moxi laser treatments is that their depth can be customized to provide multiple levels of benefits. Those seeking the most change may want to pursue more aggressive treatments.
Moxi can be used to treat multiple areas of the body, including:
We generally recommend three treatments spaced four to six weeks apart for best results. The amount of treatments recommended will vary based on your goals, and many patients continue to have regular maintenance appointments (every four to six months) to keep up with their results.
Following up and supporting your cosmetic treatments with the right skin care routine is the best way to get the most out of your treatments.
At the very least, start with a cleanser and a moisturizer. While everyone’s products and routines will vary, depending on their skin type and goals, starting with a clean slate (and open pores) and finishing with hydration (and sunscreen in the morning) is crucial.
Toners, serums and other skin care products add to the benefits but can’t be nearly as effective without the other two in place. Moxi laser treatments can also be combined with other cosmetic treatments, including Botox, dermal filler, BBL photofacials, microneedling and platelet-rich plasma (PRP).
Not sure which treatments to stack? Our providers can create a customized plan to help you achieve your skin care goals.
Although you may not have heard of this innovative laser treatment, Moxi is a great treatment option for those wanting to polish skin and reduce pigment. If you’re looking for a way to keep your skin looking and feeling its best instead of treating age-related concerns as they appear, schedule a consultation today.
Our advanced practice providers in Atlanta, Charlotte and Nashville would love to talk to you about your options.
