Prioritizing Patient Comfort at Skin Pharm

Prioritizing Patient Comfort at Skin Pharm

Each time you visit a Skin Pharm clinic, we want you to feel as comfortable as possible.

Our philosophy on patient comfort extends beyond just the treatments you receive — we’ve designed every part of our clinic experience to help you feel at ease every step of the way. From the moment you walk through our clinic doors to the second you leave, your comfort and safety are our top priority!

We get it — some skin care treatments can be a little intimidating, but Skin Pharm Franklin provider and nurse practitioner Tayler Connor is here to answer your questions and help ease some of those fears. We’ve got you covered!

How painful is the injection process?

When needles are involved, you can always expect some level of discomfort. This will depend on the type of injection and the type of treatment you’re getting.

For microneedling and Gold Infusion facials, we topically numb all of our patients with a potent numbing cream. During these procedures, you shouldn’t feel any pain whatsoever! When adding platelet rich plasma (PRP) to your treatment (which we highly recommend), you’ll feel only one needle stick while we draw your blood. We also offer other biostimulatory options to use topically during microneedling for patients who’d rather not have their blood drawn.

During filler and ’tox treatments, patients may feel mild to moderate discomfort. This depends on how many areas of the face we treat and how much product we use. The good news is that we have many different techniques and interventions to help you feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible!

What techniques do you use to minimize discomfort?

Our environments can have a huge impact on how we feel, and each Skin Pharm clinic was designed with this in mind. From our open floor plans to our customized playlists and signature candles, we make it a priority to create a space where our patients feel at ease.

Every room is fully stocked with Boxed Water and comfy headbands. We offer cozy blankets and plush robes to any patient during their treatment, too.

Skin consults are an important part of the process. Just getting to know your provider and talking through your skin concerns can help you feel more comfortable! We’re passionate about educating and establishing mutual goals so that our patients feel confident and secure in the treatments they get.

During the treatment itself, we use different injection techniques and distraction tools to keep you comfy and and maximize your experience, including:

  • Topical numbing cream to help ease potential discomfort
  • Stress balls for distraction
  • A vibrating beauty bar, which has been scientifically proven to help disrupt pain signals
  • Ice packs and handheld fans to cool the face

Plus, all of our fillers contain lidocaine, which helps minimize pain!

Is it normal to experience pain or soreness at the injection site?

Any time a patient receives a treatment involving injectables, bruising and light soreness at the injection site are possible. With fillers, patients might experience swelling and slightly more soreness than with toxin treatments. But we’ll send you home with Arnica gel to help reduce bruising and aid in healing.

Can pain from injections be a sign of a problem or complication?

Mild pain is a normal part of the injection process. We wouldn’t expect a patient to experience a high level of discomfort with injectables. Rare complications can occur — specifically with filler — that can cause higher levels of pain. This is known as a vascular occlusion and happens when filler is placed or migrates into a blood vessel. But this kind of pain is noticeably different from normal soreness and would worsen over time. At Skin Pharm, we use specialized injection techniques to minimize this risk, and we only use hyaluronic acid fillers so that we can dissolve the product in the case of this very rare complication.

As a patient, what can I do to minimize discomfort?

There are many things that patients can do before and after their appointment to ensure things go smoothly. We recommend eating a meal and drinking a sufficient amount of water prior to your treatments to ensure hydration and stable blood sugar levels. We also ask that you avoid consuming any medications or supplements that could potentially thin the blood prior to receiving injectables — alcohol, ibuprofen, vitamin E, etc.

After each treatment, our providers review aftercare instructions with patients based on the treatment they received. Following these post-treatment guidelines will ensure you experience minimal discomfort and see the best results! And we encourage you to reach out at any time with questions regarding the healing process.
