You probably hear about filler most often in regards to plumping lips and cheeks — but it’s more versatile than you might think!
From smoothing fine lines to restoring volume and facial harmony, filler is one of our favorite ways to treat a variety of skin concerns. Here are five reasons we love it — and why you should, too!
Fillers help smooth the appearance of fine lines — but they’re different from botulinum toxins like Botox or Dysport which relax the repetitive muscle motion that causes dynamic wrinkles. Instead, fillers smooth static wrinkles — lines that are visible at rest. (Read more about different types of wrinkles here!)
In addition to lip filler, we use fillers to smooth, plump, enhance and contour other parts of the face, including:
Whether you’re looking for the perfect pout or want to fill in fine lines, filler does the job! And don’t worry about overdoing it — we always aim to provide natural-looking results.
As if fillers weren't versatile enough, they can also help with overall balancing and sculpting. We've seen amazing results in patients who want to enhance a thin face with injections along the temples, cheeks and jawlines. Even a simple enhancement to these areas can improve and balance your overall appearance! If you’ve ever felt like part of your face is off-balance, fillers can help create subtle yet noticeable symmetry.
As we age, our skin does, too. Crow’s feet and forehead lines become more pronounced, and many people experience lost volume and dermal atrophy — the literal thinning of your skin caused by age, sun exposure and some medications. Fillers that contain hyaluronic acid (like Juvederm and Restylane) help erase those lines and give your skin a more supple, youthful appearance. These tell-tale signs aren’t limited to the face. If you’re concerned about wrinkles, scarring or sagging skin in the neck area, fillers can help with those, too!
If age-related volume loss is your primary concern, Sculptra is another great treatment option. Sculptra is a biostimulator, which means it improves collagen production and helps build back lost volume over time.
We’ve all seen or heard about filler treatments that go a little overboard, and we’ve had patients come to us for this reason exactly. Rather than wait it out, we can actually dissolve hyaluronic acid-based fillers with hyaluronidase. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again — we take pride in offering natural, never-overdone results, but if you’re ever unhappy with the results of your filler, we can fix that!
Filler appointments won’t take up your entire day — the whole process only takes about half an hour! We’ll start with a skin consult to talk through the goals of your filler treatment, and the injections themselves only take several minutes. You might experience some redness, swelling and bruising, but that’s it! You’ll see instant results, and you can carry on with the rest of your day as usual. (Except for exercise — wait 24 hours before doing any strenuous activity!) Depending on the type of filler you get and where it’s injected, results typically last between 6-18 months.
Although the primary goal of filler is to create volume and facial harmony, fillers can hydrate your complexion, too! Most fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, a naturally-occurring substance in the body that attracts and retains water. This component contributes to filler’s ability to plump and hydrate skin.
If it’s a dewy, youthful glow you’re after, Skinvive may be the treatment for you. Like filler, Skinvive is made from hyaluronic acid. But it’s injected as microdroplets to help improve hydration, smooth skin and give you a lasting glow rather than create volume.
